Fireside Learning: Conversations about Education

"Letting Go in the Classroom" --by Rebecca Alber, in Edutopia

Here's a great article on the process of teaching, using 21st century skills along with "old-fashioned" progressive-style involvement. The author, a high school teacher, talks about how she has learned to let go of control at appropriate moments, how she has learned to go along with student interest and passion. The results: profound learning and involvement.

Thanks, Rebecca, for the inspiration. Thanks for providing a breath of fresh air in these times of too much rigidity in the way lessons get carried out. I like her ending question, which invites comments from readers: "When was time when you let go and let the students guide the learning? Please teach us!"
