Fireside Learning: Conversations about Education

"Roxbury, MA – The Neighborhood Development Corporation of Grove Hall today announced the creation of the Roxbury Institute of Technology ‘Immersive Education High School ( public charter pending )’. Acclaimed for its innovative, technological advancements, Boston has a first of its kind in the world: a way for young people to earn a high school diploma remotely via Immersive Education (http://ImmersiveEducation.org)"

Here is what the Roxbury site says:
"Our mission is to provide a second chance for high school age learners who have not found success in their lives. Incarcerated, court involved and at risk learners, as well as Advanced Placement/Honors students with an interest in technology will be encouraged to apply. Limited boarding facilities will be provided for students who are not thriving in their present living arrangements. Each student will be provided with a personalized strategic learning and lifestyle change plan. He/she will be appointed a personal board of directors/mentors who will help them mitigate their way through the roadblocks presently in their lives."

It seems to me like a blessed initiative.
What do you think?
What do you think of the concept of immersive schooling?

Hi Or-Tal,

I think it's a very powerful concept. I like the emphasis on diversity, also like the individualized plans. Let's follow this initiative closely, ok?

Sure! I'd love to hear from people who might be a little closer to it.
