Fireside Learning: Conversations about Education

I've posted maps in this forum before, to illustrate the relationship between poorly performing schools and poverty in Chicago. I have begun to add new maps at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com and http://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com that show universities, faith groups and hospitals in different parts of the city. The goal is that in each of these sectors, individual organizations would begin to host conversations such as the ones hosted on Fireside learning, and which lead to a better understanding of how people who don't live in poverty can use time, talent, dollars, jobs, and other resources to help build youth and family supports that are available to youth in every poverty area, or near every poorly performing school, not just to a few high profile places, supported by a few high profile people.

Maps have a broader application than just Chicago or tutoring/mentoring. As you talk about service on a global basis, I encourage you to view some of the poverty maping web sites I've collected on the Tutor/Mentor Connection web site.

How are you integrating maps into disussion with youth and educators?
