This video, Creatively Speaking: Sir Ken Robinson on the Power of the Imaginative Mind, not only follows a couple of YouTube videos I've recently blogged which include Ken Robinson's contributions, but also evidences the pertinence and quality of videos presented freely by Edutopia. Connie recently pointed out an article at the Edutopia Web site. It's clear to me that Edutopia is a wonderful resource for learning, especially for the FL community.

I greatly value Robinson's emphasis on creativity as being as much a strategic priority for human sustainability today as has been literacy in the modern past. His message in this video cannot be broadcast too much among both educators and non-educators (I'm not certain if there is such a "thing" as a non-educator!). Most of the discussions I see carried on among the professionalized insiders are only technical and organizational trivialities when they are not grounded in the wider human sustainability perspective that Robinson communicates. Creativity is no flowery extra or feathery nonsense that's merely for the well-funded and socially pampering schools; it's become substantially a matter of societal "horse sense," when it comes to (re-)development of viable socio-economic communities. In some ways, too, it's a centuries-old enlightenment ambition for sociality coming home to roost.
