Fireside Learning: Conversations about Education

Ah, haven't we been through this before - to list, or not to list.
Sure have. I think this one's interesting as the best non-fiction of the (20th) century.

See what you think

Hi Ian,
Well, my favorites on that list: Sociobiology by E.O. Wilson; The Elements of Style by E. B. White; and most of all, always has been in my tip-top favorite list: Essays of E. B. White.
There are an awful lot of books on the list that I haven't read. Are there for you?

Well Connie,
I thought E B White would grab your attention!
Mostly books unread for me too! What impressed me was the range - CS Lewis, Jaroslav Pelikan, Paul Johnson, R G Collingwood, Churchill, Buckley, Popper, Huizinga, Behe (!). Mind you if there is an organising theme, it looks to be a conservative one. Would that be typical of the National Review?

Yes, the National Review identifies itself as a conservative news, commentary and opinion source. It's been around since the 1950's when it was founded by William F. Buckley Jr. with the express purpose of providing a respectable outlet for conservative intellectualism.

In my opinion, their writers tend to be somewhere just right of the middle (it does vary, of course), and less inclined to sensationalism than some other conservative media out there.

Thanks for the confirmation, Erin.
