Fireside Learning: Conversations about Education

Replies to This Discussion

We talked about several issues like this in an anthropology class I took and one thing to consider is if the government decides to pay the indigenous people for their resources for compensation, will that money be used to fuel the modernization of their culture (like bringing in ipods and other technological advancements), thus leading to the degeneration of their way of living? In other words, will it lead to increased homogenization amongst the worlds' people and the loss of variety and diversity in cultures and ways of life?
