Hi, Ellen! I've actually read Holes, and I agree it's great! And yes, my 4th graders also love that book. :) I think most of them were inspired to read it from first seeing the movie, but sometimes that's what it takes to get children to read! In this case (as in most), the book is much, much better than the movie!

My students are currently reading There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, another one by Sachar.

Maniac Magee is amazing! I love the knot part and have used it as an analogy a lot lately for some reason...

Yeah, I think that's the next book I'm planning on reading in my Jerry Spinelli lineup. :) I've heard nothing but amazing things about it!
