I actually discussed this with my class of second graders this morning and these are some of THEIR eplies: "Sometimes when I am having a lot of fun at recess and playing hard I don't want to stop and pick up a piece of trash, but I do it anyway!" ...

Welcome, Barb.
Because I can't attend the in-person Fireside Chats you, Connie, and others have had for a while now, I and others can join in discussions the "original" Firesiders now have as members of this online learning community.

Hey Barb!
So glad you've joined. I hope you leave some comments, or start discussions of your own. (I'll send you Sophie if you want any help with getting around.)
It'll be so great to have your online conversations, in addition to Fireside, where you are clearly a "conversation catalyst"!

This is my 20th year of teaching at Emerson School in Ann Arbor. I am lucky to love it more each year - I keep waiting for "burn-out" but instead find myself fascinated with the whole process of teaching...especially new ideas RE how kids learn, etc. I am a Rep for ISACS as well as AIMS which are independent school groups dedicated to professional development. I am a fan of Fireside Chats and look forward to continuing the conversations and starting new ones.
About Me:
Female, Wife, Mother. I like to read (belong to 2 book clubs, although I dont always keep up), exercise, go to movies, attend concerts, dine out, and shop when I'm not working or planning a lesson! My 2 grown (29 and 24) daughters keep me well-traveled and intrigued. Kristina (MPH, and a fellow with CDC and Emory University) has brought me to Kenya, Africa and Jessica (New England Conservatory and Rice University, MM, Double Bass Performance) to London, England and maybe Malmo Sweden in the future(she will be living there for the next 5 months, playing - and getting paid - in the Malmo Symphony Orchestra!). I have a Masters Degree from EMU and did undergrad work at MSU - all in education. My hobby used to be community theatre and I sometimes teach a summer camp at Emerson with that focus.
