My favourite book about invasive species is "Feral Future - the untold story of Australia's exotic invaders" by Tim Low. It has a great chapter about the pest colonisation of Hawaii too. My Year 11 Environmental Science students are doing a case s...

Hey, Britt

Nice to see your name up in lights here again!
Did those fires connect with you at all?

We are at www.scattergood.org. Our sustainability work is not part of the website at this time. We have just created a 1/4 time sustainability coordinator to help oversee this kind of thing. I am only the academic dean. Your parrot project sounsd marvelous. We have 35 acres of prairie that we have been restoring as part of the campus. We also maintain an organic farm and rotationally graze our animals. I want to get students more involved with both of those projects as I am a former science teacher.

I too am at a small rural school -- in the midwestern US (Iowa). We are very committed to issues of sustainability. We have a small farm, raise about 40% of our own food: just built a greenhouse to extend vegetable production into the harsh winter months. Looking at installing a wind generator in the next few years. We are slowly converting our fleet (7 vehicles of various sizes) to diesel so we can join a local bio-diesel coop. What kind of initiatives is your school working on?

Hi Britt,
I did as you requested and kept your original membership of January, 2008, and removed this second one which you inadvertently created. Sorry about the confusion created by its re-instatement; Ian didn't know about our previous exchange and, thinking this was your only membership, (rightly) re-instated it. He'll be contacting you (again) about the matter. Isn't this silly?

Hi Britt - happy to be a nerdy teacher with you. I think this might be a friendlier space than twitter. I feel like quite a dork on twitter.

I'll try again! Welcome Britt, lovely to see a fellow Australian on deck. Hope you enjoy the opportunity to share. (I don't understand what dropped you off the network - I always fear I've tripped a wire without intending it.) That also means I missed your comment on my page, since it went west with our comments for you.
So: take 2: Enjoy the company - I've found it convivial!

Ian
