Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
I'm a recent graduate of Northwestern University where I studied cognitive neuroscience and psychology, among other things. There, I was involved in numerous research projects with application in the field of education. I also gave a few lectures on genocide in Latin America to high schoolers at Evanston Township High School as part of their Holocaust Remembrance Week. However, I never considered myself an educator until I began working for Cabrini Connections, a tutor/mentor program serving at-risk youth in the Chicago neighborhood of Cabrini-Green. Besides offering services to our youth, we try to function as a hub for information and resource sharing, fostering collaboration among the numerous programs in Chicago (and elsewhere) offering tutoring and/or mentoring to at-risk youth. www.tutormentorconnection.org

Hi Chris,
We should be in touch about network formation--constant involvement and nurturing is needed, and finding people who will be leaders or stewards of the network is essential. It's like raising an animal, or a child... takes a village. Good for you, making the startup. Please let us know how you're doing. There are a lot of good advisors here, people with a lot of insight and energy. We'll all learn through the process of helping you along!

Welcome indeed Chris,
Thanks for your contribution so far - you have much to share here in the neuroscience of learning, etc. When you say "mental maps" are these congnitive structures (within the brain), or cognitive constructs (by the brain - like Buzan etc and the Mind Map movement)?

Hey, Chris, welcome to Fireside!!

Spatial skills, huh? Where were you when I was in 6th grade? Be it a roadmap, a swing at a baseball, or handwriting, when they handed them out I must have thought they said space grills and declined for plain old charcoal.

I'd love to wish your good Wildcats luck, but the Buckeyes need it! And PSU.

Have fun here!
Ed
