Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
I love this concept of teacher talk. It is sometimes so difficult to get to this learning when your teaching day gets so full and busy. All good stuff, but sometimes, often actually, you need to sit and think and be involved in discussions that will feed your identity as a teacher, and provide the support that will help your professional growth.
About Me:
I am a Secondary English teacher, but have taught all grades from 1-11. I am in Quebec, Canada, and of course live in a bilingual community. I have taught for 25 years, having taken off 14 years to work in business with my husband. Coming back to teaching inspired me to continue on that track of lifelong learning, and so I am now pursuing my Masters of Education in Curriculum Studies.
I have wonderful Sec 4 and 5 classes, and am blessed to be in their lives.
At home, I am married and have a daughter and son, three Labradors, and two cats. My life is good!

Hello Dianne,
Welcome, and muse amongst us - you're right, it's so easy to be the deliverers of stuff in the physical context and shut down on reflection, encouragement and collegiality - and it's not necessarily the local teaching community which is our community of practice. I find here a network that resonates for me. I hope you find it so as well.

Welcome again

Ian

Hi Dianne,

Welcome! Glad to have you here. It does seem that in daily life the reflective talk about teaching "goes out the window" and we're always just moving on to get the next lesson ready...

From your profile comments I can see that you'll fit right into this community. What we are doing here is trying to take time to think through the philosophies embedded in what we're doing. We're wishing to support colleagues in their work, and in their questioning. Add to that some sharing of education news, and when we can--when we remember--a bit of humor, too!

Secondary English, in Quebec... Sounds very interesting. 25 years experience, bilingual, curriculum studies--wow! It'll be great to have your voice in Fireside.

Did you see the forum on "Writing and Composition: Do We Really Teach It?" by Fred Haas? (click on the tab at the top of the page entitled "forum." On that page find the "search forum" box on the left)

How'd you find out about Fireside?

Anyhow, please join in on the conversations, and start your own!
