I am an elementary teacher trying to figure out the world of blogging, wikis and social networking. I am especially interested in encouraging technology use in classrooms where students have limited access to computers and internet in their homes. I believe that an encouraging, interested and supportive community, wherever we find it, brings us happiness, and profound learning can occur.
About Me:
I have been married to a man from Vietnam for 28 years, and we have three children, mostly grown. In my "second adulthood", I want to develop into the best educator I can be.

Thanks, Ellen. Never have been offline though, just not present and accounted for at Fireside Learning. Don't have interest or time to keep up with every pedagogical discussion or teaching technique or with general education news. That's for real pros here. Guess I'm stuck with mind full of thoughts which are the irrelevancies of an amateur outsider.

Ellen, I was checking in with Connie about some Fireside things and we had missed you here these past weeks - she told me that you were dealing with an illness in the family... I am really sorry to hear about that, and I hope that things are going okay! I am sending you good thoughts here around the summer solstice time... Laura

Hey, neighbor! Check out "Dancing 2008"...on YouTube, but also it was suggested by someone on Connie's page. It will get you silly again, plus, I thought I'd use it in class this week. I teach in a mostly white, poor community. However, we are a vacation spot, so money filters in. My kids need to understand how an education is the ticket to a more fulfilling life. They also don't get out of the valley much, so...globalization? What's that? Howard talked a lot about globalization and "glocalization" (think globally; act locally). Tou sound interested in many things that interest me, like being the best teacher you can be and becoming more tech savvy...

Ellen,
I absolutely LOVE the elephant/dog video--thank you so much!!
You know, in another life--or maybe yet in this one--I could see being a steward of an animal preserve, or someone who studies wildlife way out in the wilderness, like my hero Jane Goodall.
Your video brings out a craving in me.
I'll share it with the students! So glad you think of me when you make such wonderful discoveries...

I did not post anywhere else today. I just try to warn people about her. There is nothing wrong with being against IB and have healthy discussion about it. This woman (Lisa) has threatened people with her gun on these things.

Is this community going to permit a masked, ideological terrorist to step into it and ruthlessly character assassinate a member? If we don't ban the perpetrator of this injustice from our network and perhaps, too, the extreme antagonist on the other side of the IB issue, then we allow them to mock the fundamental openness of our discussions and the true identity of our discussants.

Ellen, I deeply regret that you have been attacked so egregiously by a newcomer who does not share the most fundamental values of collegiality.
