And I have had the chance to work with the 5th graders in our middle school (where I teach 7th and 8th grade science) who, thanks to a grant, have been using the XO laptops. There are so many very cool digital storytelling tools. Enough to meet th...

There is also a nice video out there (I can't locate the link at the moment) where a shuttle astronaut is dancing with a family gathering via video conference.

I also try to understand what seems like an amazing opportunity for children writing for a global, authentic audience inside the context that so many school districts are locked down technology-wise. What are we missing when we do this? What's t...

I wonder too, where students (and all of us) are going, once we have a Global Voice. As you asked: "What do they say and to whom? And then what happens?" Clearly something to be thinking about. Let's share plenty of examples of what's going on. Th...

Welcome Gerald,
Look forward to your parts in the conversation. I'm just curious, I suppose. What pushed you or pulled you into the teaching career change?
(If you'd be interested, that might make an interesting forum to post - there's a fair posse of people in the career change basket.)

Welcome, Gerald!

That's the way I feel, too--could not be more challenged or rewarded (in the personal, not monetary sense). And talking with teachers and people who care about education, who are trying to "figure it out" all the time, well, that is the perfect compliment to a life of teaching.

MS Science--that's got to be fun. What projects are you into? I'll check out your blog. Welcome! Jump into the conversations, start your own.

Welcome, Gerald.
I've just added a link to your blog "Inventing Learning" to Fireside Learning's "can't miss links" box (lower right panel).
You seem happy to be teaching! How many cynics in profession of teaching would say "I could not be more challenged or rewarded"? We in this community share your optimism about kids learning.
Thanks for joining us.
