Hi Jaime,
I'd focus in on making school 24-7, would network all community members, would allow and support mixed-age explorations, would emphasize service work and problem-based learning. I'd bring in community experts to talk about their work, a...
I recently received an email for an essay contest that posed an interesting question. How would you spend a million dollar stimulus package for your school? The money can be spent any way you see fit. Just curious to see what different responses t...

Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
I am a high school biology teacher and I believe that to be an excellent educator you must be constantly trying to learn new and innovative methods to reach your students. I enjoy sites like this and www.applebatch.com that allow me to branch out and connect with others.
About Me:
I grew up in California and moved to Colorado when I was in high school. I attended CSU and have been a teacher for 2 years now.
Hello All. I just recently joined so I am still getting acquainted with the site. I just wanted to pick some people's brains to see if anyone has any good sites for lesson plans/teaching resources. I teach biology, and I am sick and tired of my lesson plans. I recently joined a site that lets you share all kinds of resources and was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions. Thanks!
Thanks for connecting with me. I studied history in college and science was not my strength. However, to complete my 4 hr science requirement I took a month long course in Molecular Chemistry. During that time I tried to get vitamin A from carrots. We got something, but did not know what it was, so the science teacher had me in the labs for countless hours doing spectro graphs and other experiments to see what it was. I never thought I'd spend so much time in a Chemistry lab.
The experience rubbed off in the way I use concept maps tomap connections between ideas, and show how they are related to each other as a chain of actions needed to help poor kids through school and into jobs.
Maybe some of the kids in your science classes can take on this type of role as part of service learning, and use their logical thinking to map strategies that the business and political leaders use to be more effective at helping poor kids to careers.
Welcome, Jaime!
Hope you enjoy Fireside; hope you share a lot of your thoughts and resources.
Glad to have biologists... One of my favorite areas, too. Hey, today my students are doing a problem-based-activity on the Sixth Extinction. They were given free time and decided to research and explore that topic. Pretty big, for 4th and 5th graders. But they sure go to town on these online explorations. If you have any ideas for resources on that, let me know, ok?
It'll be great to hear about the topics and styles of studying you have going in class.
Sit back and browse around... give us some feedback on the site... and join in!
