I am currently in my 23rd year of teaching, my twelfth at Interlochen Arts Academy. I joined two colleagues as the first from our school to attend the PZ Summer Institute in 2003. We formed a working group of interested faculty here at Interlochen that started to discuss core practices and urge our school to send more faculty to Harvard summers. Three years ago, we were given a large grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation to deepen and extend our work in Project Zero for art and academic classes throughout the Academy.
About Me:
I live in Traverse City, Michigan, a beautiful lakeside community in the northern "tip of the mitt". My wife, Catherine, is a poet and teacher and we have two daughters, Hannah and Clare.

Hi Jeff,
Ok, maybe you'll take the plunge and add something in now? How about a blog about what's going on at Interlochen?
Or something about how your working group that's discussing core practices is going? We could trade notes; I'm doing that, too, with about 15 colleagues, once a month. We read articles and discuss them, along with everything else. What do you do at your meetings?
Well, the frogs are singing, even though we might get snow tomorrow. I would think we southern Michiganders are ahead of you in spring... Are your robins back? How about the great blue herons?

Hello Jeff,
Well, I have to say you come from one of the most beautiful places in the world, in my view. That is the land of my heart. I spent every summer of my life up north, first on Long Lake (you know that place, right by Interlochen) and then on Elk Lake.
You are doing such essential, inspiring work at Interlochen: discussing core values, deepening and extending the PZ work. So glad you're moving forth in such important ways.
Do you know Lynne Tobin? I think she's at Pathfinder. If you can, ask her to join Fireside, ok? She and I knew each other quite well; I miss her.
Please, join right in on conversations on Fireside Learning. Share your experiences, your questions, your views, and what you're learning. Welcome!
