Hi, Connie and everyone, I haven't had a chance to process it all, but I did want to alert Fireside folks, particularly English teachers, to the National Council of English Teachers' stance on the drafting of national standards. There is also a c...

Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
I am a teacher/learner with 11 years experience in secondary language arts. I am currently on an extended leave from the classroom enjoying mommyhood and work as a graduate student in instructional technology. I completed a master's program in IT in May 2008 and hope to begin a PhD program in fall 2009.

I first experienced true collegial sharing as a member of my school's mentoring team. For my last three years in the classroom, I mentored pre-service teachers, which profoundly changed my attitude about teaching and which I am certain made me a more confident and effective teacher. Now, I am greatly excited and energized as I learn more about the amazing web tools and collaborative technologies that might enhance mentor-novice relationships in the schools. I am also interested in how these collaborative technologies will transform and democratize teacher professional development.
About Me:
I am based in East Tennessee.

My other interests include: media education (especially understanding how adolescents use media outside the confines of the traditional classroom) and school policy/AUPs (understanding how centralized systems of authority are adapting, or failing to adapt, their policies and practices to accommodate the current explosion in web-based publishing, networking, and file sharing).

HI Jennifer,

Hey, I was just rereading your profile and wanted to ask you about your masters program in IT. How was it? Did you learn a lot? Do you know anything about the University of Michigan's Social Computing Specialization? I'm thinking of applying. You may have some perspective on whether it looks good or not...
Seems like you and I are interested in much of the same stuff. I can tell by looking at ThinkTime! How about starting forums here--and maybe cross-posting some blogs?
Good to hear from you today!

Yea! Hello Jennifer--
So glad you've joined us at Fireside Learning. You are bringing so much experience and perspective to share with us. Can you share some of your learning from working with pre-service teachers? What about that changed your attitude about teaching? Also, please share discoveries you make along the way with your IT degree.
So glad to have you here! Welcome.

Welcome, Jennifer.
Congratulations on being a new mom.
I'm adding your blog "ThinkTime" to Fireside Learning's "can't miss links" box. You've caught the promise that the new online technologies hold for learners (of all ages.) Please share with us what matters to you about kids learning by joining in the discussions we have here.
Thanks for joining.
