DD!!!!! I just saw your profile photo. Ha: that fits perfectly with what you have said in some posts in the past to LatinTeach. I LOVE IT. I wish we all had photos like that at LatinTeach.

As for me, as you can see, I am Aesop's vulpes in disguise. Or the vulpecula perhaps, since I like diminutive nouns so much...! :-)

Hi John,
Stop by in between workouts, ok? Don't worry about the orange guy, just join in. Would love to hear from you.

Loved the Alice's Restaurant reference for Connie, John! 'fillin' in the forms and playin' with the pencils' That is such a telling remark when you've been left to flounder: exemplifies life for so many struggling students.

Alice here.
Well, let's figure this out. Do you have a picture in mind that you'd like to use? You have any personal pictures on your computer? Then you can just click on the photo in whatever system it's in and drag it to the desktop. Does that make sense?
If you don't have a photo handly, I'd suggest you go to Creative Commons and find a picture you like there. Here's the address:
be sure to make the choice at the top of the page, "Search for works I can modify, adapt, or build upon."
Enter your search term (for instance, trees, math equations, Alice's Restaurant). Find an image you like, drag it to the desktop, then go through the procedures we talked about before. (Upload an image from your computer, browse desktop, select.)
Think of this as fun! You are now navigating 21st century tools, acquiring 21st century skills.
Good for your math group discussions! ;-)
Really, we need to value ALL forms of learning and discussion. What better way to discuss history and philosophy than in an interactive globally-distanced slow-motion conversational format?
Anyhow, thanks. I'm taking this on as a personal challenge, getting you to post a profile pic.
When we succeed, we'll share a virtual cup of coffee.
PS: You know who'd better at explaining procedural things than I am (I mean WAY better)?
Laura. She keeps things functioning around here, she's management. I'm just a wait-person. Better leave a good tip. (A knowledge tip will do.)

Hey DD--
Thanks for the note asking about how to become something other than an "orange guy." Here's what you do (and it can be done while sitting at bench W; you can get anything you want!)
After signing into the network, go to the upper right, find "settings," click on that. Now see where it says "profile photo"?
Click on that.
Oh--before all this (as in "preheat the oven to 450 degrees" appearing at recipe's end)--
Have a picture you'd like to use saved on your desktop. It can be a photo you or any image you'd like to use.
So now back to where you clicked on "profile photo." You can choose to "upload a photo from your computer." Click on that choice, then "browse." When you are browsing, choose desktop, then the picture you saved on your desktop. Then, click "done."
Easy enough, eh? Hope it works. Let me know. Thanks!

DD, it's you! Welcome to the Fireside! This is my main online "hang out" so to speak - I hope you'll like it. There are a lot of nice people here - in fact, that's how I found out about TarHeel Reader! Gary Bishop who built it is a member here at Fireside, too! :-)

Welcome John,
From your note above, you might enjoy, and add to, the discussion here on mentoring.
Hope you find plenty which is congenial and contributable.

Cheers

Ian
