Exactly. I am all for most of the words of wisdom that you all want to offer your students. However, it seems that for most people--kids and adults--having these quotes read (or preached) does little to actually inspire. Give me a humorous present...

When you list all of the interesting people in your class, let me point out that on-line the scope of who you may meet is much wider. In my on-line classes there were teachers in Taiwan, librarians in Las Vegas, people from my father's hometown in...

Random thoughts after reading through all of this: The kids love Stomp type things. But that is mostly rhythms. I once had a tape of classical music (not particularly well-done orchestral things) that had the sound of loons interjected at approp...

It has been six years since I completed my degree entirely on line. Here is what I remember about it. It was really convenient for someone working full time to fit the hours around that schedule. For the most part it was the traditional feeing o...

Of course there is work to be done. Complacency cometh before a fall. I see slipping back every day just as I see hopeful signs of improvement. We would never tell a student, a friend, a spouse, anyone that they are done. There is always work to ...

Rose, I could not agree more. Listening to kids after school today I got the impression that many felt "well, here is the homework for the day. I will list some things that sound good, ask a few people what they do, fill in these blanks and then g...

To me, recess means just that--a recess from the work of the day. So that means that for the most part kids should get to do whatever it is that offers relaxation. My elementary school had a huge field that was perfect for marvelous games, my favo...

Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
Now half way through my seventh year as a school librarian, I am increasingly aware of the imporatance of collaboration and sharing at all levels of the educational process.
About Me:
I was born in and raised in rural Montana, got a sociology degree from Montana State Univserisy and immediately did what all the other girls were doing--I got married. I did some things a little differently because I married a man from India. In the intervening years I have followed him first to Pittsburgh and then to Ann Arbor, MI. We have two bright and wonderful daughters. I decided to get a Masters of Library Science when the job of librarian at the school where I had already worked for several years needed a new librarian. I got the degree entirely on line. It seems to be the job for me.

HI Linda,
I think you may enjoy Jennifer Lubke's post on creating a booklist for global awareness and participation. I know you have a wealth of ideas and resources on the topic. Do you have some time?

Yeah, I'm not even sure of the value of the friend thing on ning, except maybe to get to you more easily. BTW... can you e-mail me Geetha's address? I have something to send her. And a lot to catch up with you on. I hope SF was great! My mom never came for Christmas, which is why we weren't in touch. ;-(

Hi Linda,
thanks--if you have high-speed, you can just drag all those people for Fireside Chat into the Zimbra address box. The articles are the ones listed in the Michigan Fireside "group" on this network. Did the link I sent you work?

If not, you could copy and paste this:
go to
http://firesidelearning.ning.com
choose "groups" tab
on "groups" page choose Michigan Fireside (have to scroll down a bit)
click on "links to articles for discussion"
the ones listed (six) are the ones for this meeting

Is that good? Let me know--
Thanks a million,
Connie

Oops,
I probably put this in the wrong place. So sorry. Yes, I can e-mail the whatever to the Real Live Firesiders for a Wednesday meeting. Remind what needs to be connected. It sounds like maybe some folks will have trouble getting to them. Darn those copyright fiends.

Hello Linda! How's my favorite librarian, the one who wears on her shirt 12 or 15 unusual buttons, pins, and taped-on weird artifacts to school each day? Enjoying the holidays?
What do you think of the new network?
Thanks for joining in. The world's a large place, and a small place, too. We can be in both at once. See you in cyberspace, and at school, too.
