You are making such a good point about parent involvement; it's one of the aspects of your writing that drew me to ask you to participate on Fireside.
We do so much better with raising the children when we all join together, when educators partner with parents.
I've had the delight of wearing revolving hats in my life, teacher, parent, parent and teacher (of my own kids), coach, parent and coach (of my own kids)... The roles can all blend together. One role informs the other. It takes a lot of heart. I think that's how the parent role informs us best: it's all about matters of the heart.
BTW, I just had the kids in my 4th/5th class take their parents on a tour of their ning network. and on the network are many interviews called "ask elders" in which the children interview grandparents and parents. This is some of the most important work we do.
Welcome, Lorna. Join in on the discussions; start your own! Glad to have you here.
I'm putting a link your blog "Parents as Partners" in Fireside Learning's "can't miss links" box in the lower right panel. It will be found with your name, not the title you've given, similarly to how all member blogs are listed.
We have much to discuss yet in this relatively new community of learners about parent and wider community participation in our kids learning. I, for one, want to hear much more about your take on parent/community involvement. That said, however, please don't feel that you must limit yourself to starting or participating in discussions of this kind alone. Start or jump into any discussion which engages you personally as well as professionally.
Thanks for joining us.
