I also thought your reappearance here ment that things had slowed down for the semester- break was on. Apparently not. Hope those finals are going OK.

- Yep! I suppose that depends on the person--how much you knew coming in and how much you care now, but yes, standing here now I see the squad leader job as much tougher!
I imagine you all read One Bullet Away? Great leadership treatise. Wish I could get some of the people here to absorb it.
Jump in to a discussion or two! Or start one on US military literacy--I keep putting that one off.

We need more voices here from the consumer side of the story, and people who know a tad about national security and the responsibilities of education toward producing citizen-soldiers, be they warriors, or informed voters.

- Hi Luke - I just noticed your comment on Connie's wall about the heavily qualified mob here. Don't let that fool you - they(we?) all have to put on trousers one leg at a time. Ground us in some practical comments, questions and experiences, and even the request for some plain English from time to time.
And post your own stuff - what needs comment from your perspective - there may be plenty of 'lurkers' waiting to connect with your close concerns.

Thanks for your note. I really appreciate your feedback. I very much want to make this a place that young people feel comfortable joining and participating in conversations-young as in upper HS and college, just beyond college, etc. If we're not listening to young people, what is the use of it all? I think maybe I need to do some work to get Fireside more attuned to being inviting to young people, and to having people really listen to them.
Please keep the feedback coming. If you want to write to me privately, there's an email here, the little envelope on the top of the page. Otherwise, writing on my wall is just fine if you're ok with everyone being able to see it.
Call me when you're in town and we should be able to find a time for coffee or whatever--

I'd be interested in your impressions of this network. What will make it inviting for more young people to jump into the conversations? I've got a number of deep thinking young people like you here, but mostly they don't participate in forums. Why do you think that is?
Back to Star Wars for a moment: once, as a young teacher, I dressed up as Princess Leah for Halloween, and much to my surprise the little kids thought I really WAS the princess. What a gas that day was. Now I'm trying to think of a wise old woman I could dress up as. Any ideas? (Be careful... has to be someone good, admirable, all that...)
