thanks so much for the warm response! getting the word out every bit helps. You guys might want to check out the "village school" by searching for it on the ribbon. A wonderful teacher there got 600ish students, staff, and neighbors to do panels--all featuring great photography they did in their homestate of Maine. It is beautiful and moving. She did enough panels to circle their gym. They also challenged a school in Burrton Kansas to do 90% participation, which Burrton did as well!

Hi Nancy,
So glad to see you here. I love that picture of you, sitting on the wall, looking so pensive, and in tune! The Planetfesto project is such a great one, so inspiring, so uniting.
It'll be great to hear your voice in conversations on Fireside. We are indeed delighted to have your presence.
There's a lot of good we can do, for the future of the world. You'll be a great catalyst along the way.
Welcome!

Welcome, Nancy.
I've already added a link to the PlanetFesto website to Fireside Learning's "can't miss links" box (See lower right panel.).
Please continue to communicate with us how audacity and love in projects like PlanetFesto can move us to be more socially enterprising ourselves in all matters having to do with kids learning and changing their(/our) world for the better. Also, please start or jump into any discussions you find personally engaging here in our community of learners.
Thanks for joining us.

We've started an environmental non-profit based on the following idea:

Let’s build a ribbon around the whole world.

That’s the idea behind Planetfesto.org, a collaborative manifesto of love and action.

A single, audacious goal—to create a ribbon on the internet large enough to stretch around the planet—six inches at a time. You add your own 6 inches to the ribbon by creating a simple panel expressing your love for the planet in words and an image, and a pledge. A pledge to change at least one small thing in your life to help reverse the downward spiral in the health of our earth. It’s easy to do—takes only a couple of minutes.

Why love? Because many more interesting things have happened in the world fueled by love than duty or fear. (And if you can’t love this place, what can you love?)

It’ll take 262,965,120 of us to create the ribbon. People from every age, every continent, every city on the globe. Why this number? Because it’s time to make an astonishing gesture of love and signal a new relationship with the earth centered on individual action. It is also time to signal to governments and businesses that there are a whole lot of us who actually love the earth and want to see it protected.

There are lots of great features for schools: specific things you can do for kids, the ability to view a subset of the ribbon of pieces from just your school...many schools are enjoying viewing the ribbon like a movie with the music on and just letting kids get inspired by the great images and ideas. We've had great feedback that we are at the center of trends in education, environment, and web 2.0...nice place to be!

We’ve had people create panels from 43 countries so far, entire schools, 86-year old grandmothers, arctic explorers, and many interesting people in between. We’ve been named a “site of the week” by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), featured in Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots newsletter, among many other great awards and mentions on the web.

Planetfesto is created by a husband and wife in California, started on Valentine’s Day 2007. We do not ask for money in order to do a piece of the ribbon, share any names or contact information with anyone, or accept ads. We are a non-profit corporation with a pending 501(c)(3) status.

Someone’s gotta do it. Why not you?
About Me:
I am a partner in a creative agency called Seed Communications, and a mother of 2. My husband John and I have started Planetfesto as on the side--and are enjoying creating it so much.
