Tell about your involvement in education, and your ideals for collegial sharing
I have 25 grandchildren (including great grandchildren), and they have taught me that young people learn best by being actively involved in things that matter their own communities; and they do not learn well by top-down mandates and standardized tests.
I sometimes refer to myself as a "recovering bureaucrat".
My career has involved me closely in government agencies at all levels, and I like to believe that I understand what govermemts do well and what they do poorly. It is my opinion that present education reform efforts have resulted in government agencies doing things that communities can do but that governments cannot do (not well).
