Curiosity is the key. Isn't it?

Hi Ian, Well, the word 'bizarre' can have many meanings. Bizarre can be both good or bad- unlike stupid, which is always a bad thing. When we say someone is a good teacher, it means he is not borin...

Grades

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I see mainly 2 ideas here, in different methodes: 1. Fully involves the teacher. More feedback by words, less grading by letters/numbers. Mostly uses assiments, less ex...

Grades

Actually, I didn't hate my elementary school so much, but the higher grade I got to, the less I liked school. I started to seriously get bored in school at high school. My elementary school wasn't ...

Wow. I wish I could have a teacher like you. In school, we actually learn for the exams and grades. No one learns for himself, to improve his knowledge because he is interested in the subject he le...

I started to seriously get bored in school at high school. My elementary school wasn't all that grate, but there were interesting things there, in addition of regular learning. I don't remember it, but my mom say I went to school sometime even tho...

Ha ha, I love this idea of the different kinds of cheating, Ed! To me, that is a big problem with talking about cheating, since we know there are so many kinds, and they are not created equal. Here are the kinds of cheating I see in my classes, a...

I am perfectly open with them, and tell them that the whole point of the exercise is to encourage collaboration and peer support. But they are told so often in so may of their classes that they are NOT allowed to do so, that it feels like cheating...

Thanks, will look into it.

Hi Or-Tal, Cheating would be a good topic all in itself. What constitutes cheating? When is it collaboration, when is it cheating? I find it worth defining with the students in class. It's particular to the context and agreed-upon definitions. The...

This "cheating" is a conception I really dislike. Why not openly admit that collaboration is OK and it's part of any learning process? I mean, I am founding 2 startup companies at the moment. I am the originator of the idea, but there is this much...

Connie- Thanks for Linking to the Shelter Project. I'd be glad to talk about this with anyone! Some browsing tips: I suggest reading the introductory stuff at the top, then scrolling all the way down and read sequentially from "bottom up". There ...

Very neat strategy, Ed. I think I'll have a run at something like that in my Applied Maths group next year - since again, it really homes in on process and understanding - and the grade at the end (an A for all possibility) is a very juicy carrot ...

Perhaps the issue is not grades, but the stigma of grades. When I am learning something new - astrophotography for example - I send my work to friends (and sometimes complete strangers) for scrutiny and feedback. Sometimes it is encouraging, and s...

Let me chime in with what has been, in my humble opinion, a very effective machine-scored assessment. In my physics classes I give students individualized assignments - that is, each student gets the same questions, but different numbers. As a res...

What do you think about grades? How should grades be given? Should students give the teachers grades too? What about exams and tests? How should it work? Do grades should be given at all? I have a dilemma about 'what the teacher thinks about you'...

Hey Shaii,
I am so glad you participate in these conversations I am sharing with you guys at home.

Hello and Greetings!
How wonderful that you are here--I'm thrilled!!!
Please join in on our conversations. Please start some of your own conversations.
Shaii, I hope there's some way we can help make your learning experience more interesting, valuable, and rewarding. As we get to know each other, ideas will surface. Maybe there are some experiments we can come up with, for school. Certainly there are project ideas we can design for out-of-school!
Hang in there. I'm so glad you're now part of Fireside.
Connie
