I am a secondary social studies teacher, teaching inclusion and "at risk" classes. I believe that. as professionals, it is our responsibility to "think out of the box", "leave our comfort zones", and "do what it takes" to help kids be successful. The focus should be on THEM and what they need.
About Me:
I teach in western New York USA. My subjects are secondary US History and Ancient World History, and I have almost completed a second certification in Special Education. I use what works to reach my students. I podcast and this fall launched a website MasteryMaze.com to host, share and collaborate.

Hybrid High School? Why not?

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share this video I created and posted on youYube this week. I created it to express my views and summarize the training I gave this week in Ellicottville, New York. I am a high school social studies teacher of at risk students and am using Moodle to turn my classroom into a hybrid course. I still see my kids the same number of days and my classroom really looks just as it did before. I have added an online co… Continue

The work of Jonathan Harris.. Have you visualized what we do online?

I find the work of Jonathan Harris amazing and wanted to share it here. I have added a blog post in the Maze with a short video of his talk on TED and more links to the actual works and his biographical information. I am interested to hear the fireside discussion and critique!

Sue,
Yeah! So glad you joined Fireside. I see you've been really active already, jumping right in.
I love what you wrote here, about "our duty as professionals." How many people put it like that? You are a breath of fresh air.
History, Ancient World History, and Special Ed--wow! You have a lot to add to the mix.
So glad you're here!

Welcome, Sue.
History and social studies!
Why don't you lead us in a new Fireside Learning Group about how (especially using Internet resources) we can better engage students in learning where and who they are in historical and social terms?
You hit my hot button when you said "focus should be on THEM and what they need." Why not guide us in the new Group proposed above by ensuring that this vital focus predominates in it's discussions.
Thanks for joining the community.

Welcome Sue,
You might have some helpful comments about boys and disorganisation the forum that filled my mailbox overnight. - (talk about things that can grow while you sleep!)
And I'm sure there's plenty more to hear from you - and share with you.
