Many years ago, I read a book on leadership which was rare in that in included a chapter on followership. (It was written with church congregations in mind, but is more widely applicable.)
Wagner's idea is that a 'successful' organisation needed both people able (and willing) to lead, and people willing (and able) to follow. His chapter title was 'The Fine Art of Followership.
