[What Stephen Downes posted with regard to his eBook]

Stephen Downes, Stephen's Web, May 21, 2012. I am very pleased to be able to announce the (self-) publication of my latest eBook, Connectivism and Connective Knowledge. It is a collection of blog posts, essays and transcripts from my talks covering all major contributions to the field I have made in the last eight years. It is posted here to give people a single source and common point of reference for my work in the field.

Connectivism is the thesis that knowledge is distributed across a network of connections, and therefore that learning consists of the ability to construct and traverse those networks. The bulk of this work is devoted to tracing the implications of this thesis in learning. Yes, this could have been a shorter book – and perhaps one day I’ll author a volume without the redundancies, false starts, detours and asides, and other miscellany. Such a volume would be sterile, however, and it feels more true to the actual enquiry to stay true to the original blog posts, essays and presentations that constitute this work.

I've been reading Curt Bonk's book titled the World is Open and have put in dozens of sticky notes on pages with links to on-line learning resources that he mentions. Here's a page on his site with an extensive list of resources - http://www.trainingshare.com/resources/weblinks.php

How many members of the Fireside community are using some of these in their own teaching and networking?

Skip,  I've followed the work of Downes, Siemens, and many others for almost 10 years and much of my on-line work is influenced by their ideas.  Here are some articles I've written that illustrate how we need to create adult learning systems that bring more people to forums like Fireside and similar places where they dig deeper into social issues and possible solutions.
